alec would frequent the bar and the like, so it's likely that they've at least seen each other before. maybe on a slow night or something that made some small talk and been amused by each other's use of sarcasm and the like. so acquaintances.
if they ever met outside of that, i could see them having an uneasy friendship. alec would probably try to get onto lily for being mean to people unnecessarily; alec likes bluntness, but there is a point where it does become just plain rude.

The bar idea sounds like a good idea. She'll probably end up remembering Alec's face if it's a slow night. Though we could combine the two ideas you have. On some terms they could be chatting normally, the bluntness and the sarcastic comments would flow between them easily and not cause any damage. On the other side, they would probably dislike each other a bit. What with Lily's temper, some of the things that Alec says to her, she could take offense. Whenever they meet, they can never know what kind of attitude they're going to have to each other until after the conversation's started. Sort of a love/hate relationship?

love-hate would summerize it perfectly, actually! they wouldn't know how the other would react, or at least how lily would react since she's slightly volatile. alec will have to watch what she says for once.

I don't mind. It's at the hospital, which is why I'm not sure if it's suited to their plottingness. So really, it's up to you.
