Veronica Bain is a quirky character. She's extremely outgoing, sometimes maybe even a little annoying. She loves to have fun. If she doesn't do something for any good reason, you can count on the fact that she thinks it'll be fun. She hates silence, and will do whatever she can to fill it when it arises.
She's a little...peculiar, you could say. She doesn't think the way most people would. Whether it's down to her ADHD or all the sugar in her bloodstream, no one is quite sure. Most probably because not many people know that she actually has ADHD. She's mortified by that, thinks people will judge her because of it, so she has kept it to herself for a long time. She'll only tell people who she really trusts.
She doesn't like being sat still. If possible, she'll be up and moving around, dancing, running in circles, you name it. Either way, she'll always be moving, even if she's sat down. She has a very low attention span. Now that is down to her ADHD. She can't concentrate for very long, unless it's something that really interests her, like music. Or weapons. She likes them. Especially her dagger that her uncle bought her for her sixteenth birthday. (Yes, her family is...peculiar.)
She loves to talk. You'll barely get a word in edgeways. Which is good for shy people, as they don't have to say much. Veronica will do all the talking. She also tends to go off on a tangent a lot. One minute she'll be talking about one thing, and then the next she'll have been distracted by something else she has said and began to speak about that instead. However, once you get past that, she'll quite happily listen to you talk.
When Veronica is angry, she'll try and hide it. It'll show in her general posture and body language, but she'll dismiss concerns unless the person has correctly guessed what's wrong. If she continues to be pestered about her bad emotions, she has been known to burn people into submission. But that's a last resort. She'll only do that if she's REALLY annoyed.
Veronica is, for the most part, a fun-loving, rambunctious teen. She's rarely seen angry or depressed, and loves people. Sometimes, she'll have her moments where she goes too far and completely loses it, but those are almost non-existent. She's a good friend who'll listen when you want to speak, and who's up for anything if it'll give her a laugh. She'll stick around through the good and the bad. And she will enjoy every second with others.
Veronica began her life in the small town of St. Neots in the UK. No one had ever heard of it, and that was just how she liked it. There was no one there to judge her, no one there to ridicule her, no one there to...do anything, really. She had a select few friends, But,, believe it or not, Veronica was a relatively shy girl growing up. A fidgety, boisterous girl, but a shy one all the same.
When she was four, her parents divorced, and her mother remarried to a horrid man. He never dared lay a finger on Veronica in a negative manner, but his words were enough to leave marks on her. Those stinging, bitter words still ring in Veronica's ears to this very day.
This all changed, though, when he beat Veronica's mother. She feared for Veronica's safety after that, and somehow, she found the courage and wherewithal to leave him, and she and Veronica returned to her father's house, her mother spilling apology after apology for her damaging and careless attitude toward their marriage. Her father accepted the apologies, and the pair, back into his life with open arms. And, for that moment, everything in Veronica's life was wonderful. She had two loving parents and a roof over her head. What else could any other child want?
However, this all ended with the arrival of February 2005. Veronica had been sent to bed early because of an argument she had with her mother and father. She ended up falling asleep, and, in her troubled state, had a nightmare. This was about Veronica's mother's ex partner, who swore that he was going to return, going to make life miserable.
Veronica knew no other defense than fire.
She awoke to find orange flames licking at her house. She was on the outside, in the arms of a firefighter, watching her house consume itself to it's foundations. Her parents, however, had not been so lucky.
It was in the newspaper the week after. How a house had been burnt don, reportedly arson, how an eight year old girl had survived, but her parents had not. Veronica still has a clipping of that news report in her drawer at home. "Home" being her Aunt and Uncle' house. Kelli and Marcus Durham took in Veronica after the death of her parents.
Not only was Veronica struggling with the fact that her parents were no longer with her; she believed that she had murdered them. She didn't know quite how she started that fire. She knew about her powers from an early age; her mother had been a fire sprite also. But how she did it in her sleep, she is still unsure.
Matters weren't helped when, at ten years old, Veronica was diagnosed with ADHD. She had branched out slightly from her shy youthful ways, and now spoke to other people her age. But this...she had a freaky disorder. No one could know that was decided by her very early on. No one. Would. Know. It just...it couldn't happen.
So now, Veronica has dealt with whatever life has thrown at hr with a smile on her face, feigning strength and happiness to get by. But she'll survive. Honey Tree will help her. Or, at least. she hopes it will.
