Because he was a man. And asdfghjkl not just any man either. This was quite possibly the most weirdly awesome thing that had ever happened to Brent. Like, ever. And some other very strange but mostly awesome things had happened to him before that had been totally keysmash worthy.... but he thought that, perhaps, this really was better than all of them.
He'd literally dragged Sebastian all the way to Bree's place, going out in the cold just to brag that he was lucky and the best person in the world. It was seriously cold though and Brent hadn't been bothered to get a jacket or anything so he hoped that Bree was in when he and Sebastian reached her flat.
Brent let go of Sebastian's wrist and crouched down so he could shout to Bree through her letterbox. "Breeeee-Beaaaar, guess whose puppy turned into a hot Italian maaan~" he called out, trying not to laugh, "My life is so much better than youuuuurs~"
He starting snickering as he stood up again and grinned widely at Sebastian. Now, hopefully Bree wouldn't think he was completely insane. But she'd probably take a little convincing, not everyone was as gullible as Brent. [/style] TAG: Bree! Sebby! NOTES: hehehe OUTFIT: clicky! |

The water sprite just did not know what was wrong with herself. She was all over the place. She couldn't focus on anything, she was flitting from room to room in her flat listlessly, she just couldn't get comfortable anywhere. Well, okay, she was comfortable enough curled up in a ball on her sofa, in her pajamas, with her guitar. She couldn't be bothered with contact lenses today, so she just shoved on her glasses she hadn't worn those in a long time.
But the point was, that Bree was not in a good mood, to say the least. She was creatively stifled, and furious because of it. Or, at least, that was her guess. It was the fact that every day was the same to her. Get up, go to the florist, come home, eat, read, jam session, sleep. Unless it was a weekend. Jamming was extended by a few hours. And, in all honesty, it was just getting boring to her. Frustrating. ...Uninspiring.
And this idiotic song. She'd tried being patient. Seeing if anything would come to her after that day on the beach with...Sebastian, was his name? Yup. But all she got out of that was a verse or two extra. And, well, she needed more than that. It had a long way to go before it would be done. And she hated that. It'd been forever. Well, not forever, but pretty damn close to that. And now it was just getting stupid. Beyond stupid.
So the when she heard the letterbox go, she was...annoyed. She was supposed to be working on this. Not faffing around with people at the door, or doing anything else. She wanted to get this done. Was that so much to ask? As she heard Brent's voice ring through her hallway, she was gearing herself to tell him that she wasn't in the mood, that he should go home, but...
What?
She went to her front door, and pulled it open, pushing her glasses a little further up her nose. "What did you just say?" she asked, her voice some kind of weird mix between bewilderment and disbelief. She nodded briefly at the other man, "Charley", who just happened to be Sebastian (what were the odds of that happening?), and flicked her eyes back to Brent. "Sorry...but I don't believe you at all. That's...nuts, Brent."

Sebastian rubbed his wrist. Brent had basically sprinted to Bree's house, and had been holding his wrist the entire way. He watched the door open after Brent had called out. Oh, yes, he remembered her now he was seeing her; it was the girl from the beach. The one with the guitar.
He watched Bree give Brent an incredulous look due to what he'd said. Actually, Sebastian was slightly in shock himself, as Brent had just called him 'hot'. While not being certain, he was pretty sure that meant 'attractive'. Brent found him attractive? Shaking his head, he acknowledged Bree's nod with one of his own.
"...Bree, was it?" Sebastian said. "I don't mean to be contradictory, but it is true. To put it bluntly, I overestimated my powers. When I shifted, I was unable to turn back. I had to simply wait for it to wear off. I was fortunate that it did." Glancing at Brent, he added, "Brent was unaware that I was anything more than an average puppy, of course."
He smoothed back his hair with a hand. "Anyway, Bree, hopefully this time we'll start off on the right foot. I promise to try not to impose on your personal affairs again." Looking at Brent, he tilted his head to one side. "Er... so why are we here, Brent, precisely?"

Brent saw that Bree was still dressed in her pyjamas when she opened the door to him and Sebastian. And she looked kind of... stressy. Which was a little weird for Bree and warned Brent that maybe he ought to try and be slightly cautious around her. He didn't particularly wish to be snapped or glared at.
"It's not nuts!" Brent protested with a loud whine before paused. Well... "Okay, it kind of is nuts but it's true. Like, what would I get out of making it up, eh?" Brent let Sebastian go on and try to explain things because he'd probably end up making the tale sound a whole lot more believable that Brent could manage.
He nodded at Bree to confirm everything Sebastian had told her. "See, look... um, he's a shape shifter. So yeah." he smiled, positive that she'd have to believe him now. The way Sebastian put it didn't make it sound quite so ridiculous.
Brent rolled his eyes at Sebastian. "We are here to see my best friend. I was going to introduce you to each other but... you've already met. So now I can't! Thanks for letting me know that, by the way." [/style] TAG: Bree! Sebby! NOTES: hehehe OUTFIT: clicky! |

Did they really think that Bree was that gullible? Oh, god, she hoped not. That would just make things more awkward for everyone. As if Bree would believe that, oh wow, Brent's puppy had turned into an attractive Italian man. Yeah, right. That just...didn't happen. But then, she couldn't talk, really. Most humans, except for the few she'd seen around Honey Tree, didn't know that people like her existed. But, meh, Bree was past caring just then.
She had to admit that the story about Sebastian being a shapeshifter sounded convincing, though. She knew that they existed; she'd met a few. It was highly unlikely that he'd someone of his age would become a puppy though. Wouldn't he have become something different, like a smaller breed of dog? She didn't know, but she would have thought so. It seemed much more realistic than a puppy. So...that part, at least, had to be a lie, didn't it?
"I'm...sorry...but I'm not buying it," she stated bluntly, not in the mood to hold back and be nice, like she usually was. She just wanted to go back inside and do nothing; have time to herself. Maybe sleep some. Sleep. That sounded nice. Maybe a cup of hot chocolate first, though. To warm her up from the biting chill in the air. That seemed really nice right now.
On hearing her friend's sarcastic comment, Bree didn't miss a beat. Her sapphire eyes flitted to his face, and she narrowed them the slightest bit. "My pleasure," she responded with equal verve. Her voice then quietened slightly. "Note to self; alert friend to location and company 24/7."

Sebastian looked at Brent, then at Bree. He watched Bree's expression show signs of utter disbelief, and decided he had to add something to the conversation.
"I understand that it is hard to believe, Bree. In fact, quite how I managed the feat of transforming is beyond me. I suppose my powers were enough for me to be the breed of dog I wished for, but not the size...." He hoped he was being more convincing than Brent had been, but he doubted it. In fact, he'd lost his train of thought and was already quieting. To be honest, he felt that Bree should only believe him if she wanted to. Him being a shapeshifter shouldn't affect their friendship. If they were going to be friends. He hoped they were going to be friends.
Sebastian had,of course been brought up to act like a gentleman, and found it necessary to check that Bree was okay after their previous meeting. "Enough about me, anyway; I hope the song is coming along well, Bree. I was trying to help, but I truthfully apologise if I was being too forward. Sorry, once more."
Sensing that Bree wasn't in the best of moods- as well as watching her eyes narrow at Brent's unnecessary comment- Sebastian said, "Perhaps it would be best if I came another day- during the week, if that would be better?" The young woman seemed to be otherwise occupied, and did not wish to disturb her.

Brent didn't like it, not one bit. He didn't want to ever have to see anyone being anything but happy, especially Bree, of all people. "Breeee. I know it's not the most believable thing in the world... but, still, it's not a joke." Brent pleaded with his best friend, hoping she'd soon give in and actually believe him and Sebastian. Who, again, wasn't such a failure at explanations as Brent was. That was really handy.
Nononono. He was not being abandoned when Sebastian could possibly make this seem like it made more sense than Brent could. However, that probably wasn't going to be a particularly difficult task. "Now is fine." the sprite interjected before Bree could agree was Sebastian's sort of cry for help. Brent 'accidentally' stepped down hard onto the other man's foot to make sure he got the point. He hoped that didn't count as animal abuse. Or just... abuse. Nyeh, he couldn't have done that much damage anyway. Brent still felt a little guilty for it though.
Woah, Bree's scary face wasn't nice. Brent had forgotten about that. Now, that was something he wasn't going to put up with. "Jeez, I was just saying. You don't have to get all eye-narrowy with me." he complained, starting to get a little annoyed with Bree. Hopefully nobody was going to end up losing their temper here. Hopefully. Could Brent's whining get any more irritating than it already was? Apparently so. It was incredible, but it was true. Brent had intensified in all his annoying. On any other day, Bree would have given in, just to shut him up. Either that, or laughed at him. But, in case it is not already obvious, Bree was not in a laughing mood at that moment.
She shut her eyes for a moment, and held up her hand. "Okay...So let me get this straight," she said. "You expect me to believe that your teddy bear of a puppy turned into an attractive Italian man with an accent and everything?" Hah. Of course. Because that was completely normal.
She turned to Sebastian then, and shook her head. "I'm not going to lie, it's not really turnin' out like I'd hoped." she sighed. She shrugged, though. What could she do other than keep trying? "But thanks for the interest. And, no, don't worry, you weren't being too forward at all. It was just me being stupid." She gave a dismissive wave of her hand. She needed to get over the stage fright soon; she really did.
She drew breath to say that, yes actually, Sebastian - no, scratch that, both of them - would be better off coming back at another time, when she wasn't so stressy. But when she spoke, she sounded an awful lot like Brent. And it was the opposite of what she wanted to say. Now is fine.
Excuse me? the water sprite thought, lifting an irritated eyebrow at her obviously stupid friend. She'd known Brent had issues thinking things through, but was he mentally challenged or something? Any idiot could probably tell that she wasn't in a good mood at all. And he still wanted to stay and try to force her to believe something that she just didn't think was true in the slightest. Well. That was obviously going to end well.
She threw her hands up in frustration. "Thanks for asking for my input. It's not like it's my time being wasted or anything." she seethed. She would have appreciated being asked first. And it seemed Sebastian was getting uncomfortable. Brent...did he ever think? Did he own a brain?
She rolled her eyes at his next comment. Oh, god, who did he think he was? Her mother or something? No. He was her best friend. He didn't really have the right to tell her off like that, now did he? "Well, can you blame me?" she muttered. "God, Brent, the way you put that made it sound like you own me or something."

Being a little fed up with the fact Bree didn't believe that he was a shapeshifter (although very happy that she'd called him attractive), he said bluntly-with an expressionless face, "I am. My powers are weak, otherwise I'd change into something to show you."
Sebastian grimaced as Brent stomped on his foot. It wasn't hard enough to actually bruise, but still seemed rather unnecessary. In retaliation, he gently nudged the sprite in the ribs. The shapeshifter was stunned at the fire sprite's casual 'Now is fine', for it wasn't his decision to make, surely. In fact, the younger man seemed to be rather obnoxious- if he acted this way around people all the time, he wondered how he ever managed to keep any friends.
Shifting his feet- Sebastian was rather uncomfortable standing between the two friends- he said, "I-I'm sad to hear things aren't working out with that song, Bree." He muttered, unable to look her in the eye due to the glare she was giving Brent. "If you wished for any assistance, I'd be happy to help- but I'm certain you will be capable of finishing it off yourself." He smiled hesitantly, despite himself. He was almost scared of the reaction a smile would have, but he did so nonetheless.

Brent was actually starting to get a little irked too because, hey, this was utterly ridiculous but that was Brent's life in a nutshell so some part of Bree's mind had to believe him, right? "Yes, I expect you to believe that because it's the truth!" he raised his voice, throwing his arms in the air in exasperation. Man, Brent really just needed some way to prove this. But he had no idea whatsoever how to go about it. He didn't want Sebastian to end up stuck as a puppy again... well, he mostly didn't, but Charley had just been the cutest, fluffiest little thing in the world.
Sulkily, he let Bree and Sebastian go and talk about when they'd met and hadn't told him. Who cared if he was acting like a five year old? Not Brent, that was for sure. He was barely even aware of it, this was just the way he was. It took a lot of effort not to go ahead and jab Sebastian in the ribs, right where Brent knew he was the most ticklish, after he was nudged and let out a girlish squeak.
"Your time is not being wasted! It's being... I don't know. It's being used wisely. Because I thought I'd be nice and share something about my life with you because I thought you'd actually give a shit. Seems I was wrong there. What if... what if I was getting married or something? I bet you wouldn't even be bothered then." the sprite took an almost challenging step towards Bree, hands tingling as he toyed with the idea of using his powers already. It would be best not to though... Brent and Bree fighting never ended well.
That was a load of bullshit. Somebody was obviously very touchy today, huh? It wasn't helping Brent keep control of his temper at all. "Actually, no, I just thought that two of my friends would maybe let me know that they met. It's not exactly a lot to ask, is it?" he hissed. [/style] TAG: Bree! Sebby! Bree was getting closer and closer to just...snapping completely. She couldn't deal with this; no, not today. She honestly didn't know what was up, but she knew for certain that she wasn't in the mood to deal with this. So...what else could she do than give in? Even if she didn't really believe it. It would just shut everyone up, so that she would be able to get back to whatever the hell it was that she was going to do that day.
"...Look," she said, too calm, too quiet. "If you say it's real... then fine. It's real." It was directed more to Sebastian than Brent, as Sebastian hadn't really given her any cause to be angry. If she'd have spoken to. even looked at Brent at that moment, she probably would have ended up yelling. And somehow, she didn't think that her neighbors would appreciate that at all. Brent was making enough noise as it was. Especially with the girlish squeak that Bree couldn't help but smirk at.
But that smirk quickly dropped at her..."friend"'s... next words. ...Wow. That...wow. Ouch. She didn't give a shit about his life. She wouldn't be bothered if he got married. Well. Those words bored into her mind like stinging darts. She almost felt...guilty. That had hurt her. Of course she gave a shit. Of course she would be bothered if he got married. Of course she would. This guy was her best friend. No matter how much he irritated her sometimes, she still loved him to pieces. And yet...it seemed as though he didn't know that.
She looked at the ground for a moment, blinking furiously. No. No tears were coming right now. Definitely not. She wasn't crying at all. Because that would be stupid and would make her look...weak. She couldn't look weak right now. She put a stony expression on her face, just as he took a step closer. She mirrored his actions, so that they were face to face. Well, not quite face to face. Bree was quite a bit shorter than him. But she looked up at him with narrowed, icy eyes, sparked with fury that masked the pain.
"That's not true." she growled, feeling her fingers itch as the temptation to use her powers grew ever stronger. "And you fucking know it." How? How could he say something like that? Was she really that bad of a friend? Did she give that impression to him all the time? That...that she didn't care? Well. Then she was a pretty crappy friend, wasn't she? And that hurt to hear. That hurt to know.
"Well, then I'm sorry if I didn't know that you and Sebastian knew each other." she said sarcastically, though her voice was still slightly thick with unshed tears. "My mistake. I should totally inform you about whoever I talk to from now on."

The shapeshifter was rather uncomfortable standing there between the two warring friends. He was unable to use his powers at all, yet Bree and Brent were facing off, practically crackling with power. It was rather tempting to edge away slowly; to be honest, he didn't think they'd miss him. Despite his best interests, he stayed put. "Brent, I would have told you, but I was unaware you two were acquainted."
Despite the fact he barely knew her, Sebastian felt the need to stick up for Bree in this situation, whether she wanted the support or not. It probably had something to do with the fact she was nearly crying; even though he knew Brent better, he'd been brought up to help a woman in need. "I am sure she would be interested, Brent. If you two are as good friends as I believe, then I see no reason why she wouldn't wish to know." He tried his best to speak mildly, with no accusation in his tone. He didn't wish to aggravate anyone.
Watching Brent's furious gaze burn into Bree's equally angry one, he said, "Brent, stop this. First, she has said she believes me; and secondly, if this is about her not letting you know about our meeting, I didn't tell you either." Hesitantly, he placed a hand on Brent's arm, scared he'd get his face burned off.
"If you have to blame someone, blame me; it's my fault more than hers that you weren't made aware." Softly, he added, "I'm sure that violence is not necessary, whatever is the matter." He gave Bree a brief, apologetic glance. If the fire sprite was like this to everyone, keeping friends must be hard for him, surely.

He hadn't quite meant to be so harsh with Bree, it had just happened before he could stop himself. Brent wasn't used to thinking before he spoke which was why, generally, he never did. He just blamed his dad for that; Mr McKinney was exactly the same.
He did honestly regret what he'd just said to his best friend when he saw the tears in Bree's eyes. That hadn't been Brent's intention at all... well, it wasn't like he'd had any intentions in the first place since he'd just been saying whatever came to mind first in his usual way. Brent just couldn't bring himself to back down though, not when Bree wasn't either. If she did, then perhaps he would consider it an okay option.
Sebastian was trying to help, Brent could see that. But he didn't need help and neither did Bree. He couldn't bring himself to start snapping at the shape shifter now too though. "I wouldn't say something like that if I didn't mean it." Brent lied, the words slipping out way too easily as he looked straight at Bree and didn't tear his furious gaze away from hers. It felt like some fucked up staring contest.
When he felt Sebastian's hand on his arm and forced himself to listen to what the other man had to say, Brent soon found himself shrugging his hand off. It hurt that Sebastian wasn't on his side. And it hurt that he was being a complete arsewipe but wasn't prepared to do anything about it. "Don't." he swiftly turned his glare on Sebastian, speaking quietly through gritted teeth.
Brent couldn't think of what to argue back at Bree with. So he didn't. He just glared more because... because he didn't know what else to do which didn't involve fire. Sdfghkjdjs, and, no, Brent just couldn't blame Sebastian. "I'm blaming her because she's the one being an absolute bitch for no apparent reason!" [/style] TAG: Bree! Sebby! Oh god oh god oh god. No. She couldn't believe she was hearing this. Not from Brent. It wouldn't have hurt so much coming from anyone else. It would have still hurt. Come on, she was basically being told that she was the world's crappiest friend. Not caring about anything to do with her friends' lives was one thing. But hearing that she wouldn't care if someone she loved as much as she loved Brent got married?
And here he was, basically saying that he meant every word. Every word. And what he said held some truth; why would you say something like that if you didn't mean it? He had to have meant it; the words just slid out of his mouth so easily, his eyes burned into hers with a kind of anger that she rarely saw...he meant it. Every. Last. Word.
She dropped her eyes from his with a sigh, no longer able to look at him, his flaming, chocolate eyes. She wasn't going to cry like she had done a few seconds ago. At least, not while they could see. She wasn't doing that. Instead, she just looked at the ground, her eyes wide as she took a tiny step back from him. She nodded once, quickly.
"...Y-Yeah." she stuttered out, her voice cracking the slightest bit. No. Not cracking. That was weak. She wasn't showing weakness right now, she couldn't. She cleared her throat. "Th-That...Alright, then." Her voice, though still slightly broken, was colder. She didn't want do do this; no, she hated it so much. But... hopefully stepping back and creating the physical distance would--
No.
No. No. No. No. No. That wasn't happening. He was not bringing Sebastian into this. There was no way Bree was going to let Brent do that. That was unfair and uncalled for, maybe like the way she had behaved before, but nyeh. Now, she actually had an excuse to be mad. He was talking to Sebastian like he was dirt. All the venom and fury that he couldn't release on Bree at that moment was going to him, and that just...wasn't fair. No. She should be getting spoken to like that. Sebastian had done nothing wrong at all.
"Don't you fucking dare." she said lowly, menacingly, almost threatening. "He's done nothing wrong. Gonna shout at anyone? Shout at me. Get it all out of your system." She'd lifted her eyes back up, cold and impassive. She'd dealt with the fights before; some had been much worse than this. She could handle it, easily. Probably better than Sebastian could; he was new to this. Bring it on, Brent. |

Really? Brent was prepared to throw away a friendship, and for what? Not being aware of one miniscule detail? He was saying that Bree- one of the closest friends he had, wouldn’t care if anything happened to him. Honestly, he couldn’t believe that. He couldn’t, surely. Yes, Sebastian had seen the flash of anguish in the fire sprite’s eyes when he realised just how much of an impact his words were having, but—he carried on just as he had been. Nothing had changed with that realisation, and that was the sad thing.
Admittedly, the shapeshifter felt bad for not being on Brent’s side, but someone needed to stick up for her. And when the younger man simply shrugged off his hand with nothing more than a single word, that was made all the clearer. There was so much fury behind that one single word- Don’t—that it was obvious something needed to be done. Brent needed to be calmed down for one. In his current state, it was extremely likely that he’d hurt someone, which wouldn’t exactly be ideal.
“Don’t what, Brent?” He shot back. It hurt him to argue with the other man- he was rather sure that it showed in his eyes- but it was necessary. If Sebastian was able to draw Brent’s attention away from Bree, then that would be something. “You’re telling me not to blame myself? I don’t understand. You’re certainly not blaming her due to her being a ‘bitch’, are you? For how has she wronged any more than I have?” You’re blaming her because you can’t bring yourself to blame me. Despite the fact it is as much my fault as hers. Aren't you?
The shapeshifter glanced at Bree. The water sprite- who he’d previously thought wouldn’t be able to withstand the pressure of Brent- was coping well. Better than he was, in fact. She was blatantly able to take care of herself. As much as Sebastian appreciated that- and the fact that she was trying to help him, also- he felt useless enough already. After all, he was standing between two sprites that weren’t far off humming with power, which made him feel rather weak. The elder man despised being a shapeshifter sometimes. For him, the shifting was uncontrollable; no matter what he attempted, he’d only shift when he had to.
So it made him rather angry when Bree seemed to brace herself, when she said to the other sprite that he ought to ‘let it all out.’ She was clearly aware of how those words could be taken, and it infuriated Sebastian he had no significant power to help her. His attempts at doing anything all appeared to have been completely ineffective. Alarmed, he watched the young woman’s eyes meet the other sprite’s, her gaze frosty. “I hope you know what you’re doing.” He murmured. The shapeshifter didn’t know who he was talking to anymore. Both of them, he supposed.
